At all times we endeavour to provide private rooms to patients. However, this is not always possible depending on hospital occupancy at the time of your admission and the nature of your condition. Some patients require close monitoring for 24-48 hours post operatively and will therefore be placed in a High Dependency Unit, this allows for a high level of care to be provided until such point that you are stable enough to be moved to a private room or until one becomes available. Our shared rooms have no more than two beds in them and we carefully consider placement of patients at all times.

With both hip and knee replacements the average length of stay is between 5-7 days. However each patient has different circumstances and medical conditions which may mean their stay could be shorter or longer. Improved technology has led to improved clinical outcomes, resulting in shorter recovery times allowing patients to return to the comfort of their home quickly. This coupled with the constant demand for beds by other patients awaiting treatment means that most joint replacement patients will be in hospital for the average of 5-7 days.
