The Friendly Society Private Hospital, located in Bundaberg Queensland,
has become Australia’s first hospital to offer a new benefit to its
nursing staff.
In July a corporate agreement was signed with the Royal College of
Nursing (RCNA) which will bring added advantages to existing and future
staff. The agreement, which is one of two new models founded by the
RCNA, is known as the Corporate Partnership Plus initiative.
RCNA chief executive Debra Cerasa said the organisation was the peak
professional body which encouraged nurses and those in the extended
network membership. The organisation is not a union or industrial
representation but champions on a national platform about policy
development, nursing research and the industry’s professionalism.
“The new partnership models aim to further help organisations who
employ nurses and help nurses,’’ Debra said. “The ‘Friendlies’
commitment to the partnership demonstrates that they believe in the
importance of their employees. “The hospital is value adding to the
employment of their staff and investing in them. “It indicates that
the team values their employees and want to encourage employees to
continue in their profession.’’
A spokesperson for the Friendly Society Private Hospital said the
hospital had signed up to the corporate partnership for many reasons.
The benefits are endless. “Firstly the partnership gives our nurses
reduced membership fees with the RCNA,’’ the spokesperson said. “Our
nurses are also exposed to the professional network through the
college.’’
The hospital will also receive added benefits including access to
industry publications, registration for a corporate member to attend an
annual conference and ongoing networking opportunities. The
‘Friendlies’ spokesperson said the commitment to the partnership echoed
the hospital’s belief in supporting and encouraging staff.
